RETAMA PARK BUILDS MOMENTUM WITH SUCCESSFUL 2026 SUMMER MEET

Retama Park concluded its 2026 summer meet with an encouraging three-day closing weekend, generating more than $1.57 million in combined on- and off-track wagering. Full cards were contested all three nights, with five stakes races highlighting a weekend that combined competitive racing with family-friendly entertainment.
Friday delivered one of the strongest nights of the weekend, as attendance increased nearly 20 percent to 1,604 and combined wagering climbed 10.6 percent to $553,571. The evening was highlighted by the first stakes race of closing weekend, when AQHA Supreme Race Horse Shakers No Secret won the AQHA Retama Championship Challenge (G3), earning a berth in the AQHA Racing Challenge Championship on October 17 at The Downs at Albuquerque.

On closing weekend at Retama Park, racing fans might see and hear some familiar music and promotions of popular musicians and rodeo superstars, as the track begins promoting the 2027 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo’s entertainment line up!
The San Antonio track will have thousands in attendance this weekend to witness the popular Wiener Dog races, that are run between the horse races throughout the night. But an even larger audience will be watching and wagering on the Selma tracks races this weekend at it 1,200+ outlets around the world. And between the races, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo line up will be promoted, as tickets for the 2027 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo went on sale on August 20.

The exciting finale of the Quarter Horse racing season at Retama Park will take place August 20-22, as the 2026 Texas summer meet concludes with three nights of racing.
Five stakes races will highlight the weekend as Quarter Horses, Paints, and Appaloosas share the spotlight. In between races, fans can enjoy the popular Weenie Dog Races, live music, food, and family entertainment.
“We appreciate the horsemen who have run in San Antonio this summer and contributed to our success,” said Retama Park Vice President and General Manager Bryan Pettigrew. “Our racing fans have shown and supported our annual promotions, as well as our new promotions and handicapping tournaments. We are looking forward to an exciting closing weekend and crowning our season-ending champions.”
