Timed Workouts and Non-Parimutuel Training Race Schedule Tentatively Set for February and March

SAN ANTONIO, TX – Retama Park announced several new management changes as it enters its 29th season of operation. Located in Selma, TX., Retama Park, which opened as a race track in 1995, continues to host a Quarter Horse meet each summer as well as a training center and simulcasting venue. The four individuals and their positions are as follows:

 

Adam Acton – Assistant Track Superintendent

Acton joins Retama Park after working at Remington Park in Track Maintenance and the Green Country Club both in Oklahoma City. Adam will oversee the safety and the daily maintenance of the one-mile dirt oval that serves as a training track from December to April and then as a Class I - Quarter Horse race track from June to August annually. Acton will work closely with Jose Coronado at Sam Houston Race Park and Jake Leitzel at Penn National Racecourse to condition the track and keep it safe for horses and humans.

Felix Simon – Director of Security

Felix joins Retama Park after serving 11 years as a United States Air Force Security Forces member. Felix will oversee the overall Security Operations of Retama Park, as well as serving as a liaison between the Texas Racing Commission, law enforcement, fire officials, and other local/state agencies as it relates to Security matters.

Darla Walcoff – Director of Finance

Walcoff is a Certified Public Accountant joining Retama Park after working in the entertainment business for the past 20 years. Most recently as Director of Accounting at Lucky Strike Entertainment in Los Angeles and prior to that position working in finance at the House of Blues.

Cody Wheeler – Group Sales Manager

Wheeler joins the track and will be responsible for developing new business, including group sales, catering events onsite and offsite, special events to add to Retama Park’s upcoming carnival, concerts and annual holiday light show. Wheeler will be involved in local chambers of commerce, working with community event organizers in San Antonio and targeting larger organizations that can use the unique space Retama Park. He has been involved in the community for over 10 years now and plans to leverage those relationships to drive business to the park.

“Our management has been evolving since last summer and we are proud to have these very capable individuals join our team at Retama Park and Penn Entertainment,” said Bryan Pettigrew – Vice President and General Manager – Texas Racing Operations for Penn Entertainment. “We are committed to generating business for the track and our surrounding communities, which includes local business owners, and we believe these four managers will help us attain those goals.” said Pettigrew.

TRAINING CENTER AND TRAINING RACES IN FEBRUARY AND MARCH
The Retama Park Training Center (RPTC) allows Horsemen and Horsewomen to bring horses to the track for training and timed workouts through April 19.   Days of operation are Tuesday through Saturdays.  All breeds are welcome.

The Retama Park Training Race Days are tentatively scheduled for February 9, February 23, March 6 and March 27, with a 12:00 post time.   The two March dates are subject to Texas Racing Commission Approval and are a change to a previously released schedule. The public is invited to attend and watch, however, there will not be pari-mutuel wagering on Training Races. Check www.RetamaPark.com for the complete schedule of dates and times.
